Saudi Arabia Slashes Asian Oil Prices to Six-Year Low
Saudi Arabia has slashed the price of its flagship oil grade for Asian markets in November, marking the lowest discount in six years. The state-owned oil company, Aramco, announced that Arab Light crude will be sold at a $5 per barrel discount compared to the regional benchmark. This represents a significant drop from the $2 discount applied in October.
The price cut comes as oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz have increased. Traders and refiners had anticipated a $5 increase in the price for November, according to a survey. However, Aramco's decision to lower the price instead has caught some off guard.
The move highlights the competitive dynamics in the global oil market. Saudi Arabia's decision to reduce prices could be aimed at maintaining market share or responding to shifting supply and demand conditions in Asia.
