Saudi Arabia's East-West Pipeline Restarting After Attack
A recent attack on Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline has prompted significant field changes and earthworks around one of its pumping stations, according to satellite imagery. The images, which date back to September 14, 17, and 22, show changes in the shape and size of a darkened area near the station, as well as new tracks and earthworks.
A comparison of the September 17 and 22 images reveals extensive excavation and soil-leveling operations, along with newly prepared areas on the southern side. The pipeline was attacked on September 10, resulting in its suspension the following day.
According to Reuters, Saudi Aramco has begun restarting the East-West pipeline at a low flow rate, aiming to restore flows to around 4 million barrels per day. However, restoring the pipeline to its full capacity of 7 million barrels per day could take between six and eight weeks.
