Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 Transformation Already Arriving in Reality
Saudi Arabia's ambitious transformation program, Vision 2030, has been underway for over six years, and in many ways, its future has already arrived. The country is no longer just an oil-producing economy with limited international engagement but a diversified economic power, investment destination, and major regional player.
The growing relationship between Saudi Arabia and France is a prime example of this shift. The two countries are set to host a business forum in Paris, while a high-level delegation from Saudi Arabia will attend the Esports World Cup at Porte de Versailles. Bilateral trade has exceeded €7 billion in 2024, excluding arms.
The transformation is not limited to economic developments; social change is equally remarkable. Women's roles have expanded significantly, with driving bans lifted and greater participation in the workforce and government. The country has also become more open to entertainment, hosting music concerts, festivals, cinemas, and international sporting events.
Saudi Arabia's investment in tourism is another key aspect of its transformation. The kingdom is developing destinations like AlUla and the Red Sea region into major international tourist hubs. This effort is driven primarily by Vision 2030, launched under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2016.
