Senate Committee Advances New Five-Year Farm Bill Amid Tax Legislation Boost
The Senate Agriculture Committee has advanced a new five-year Farm Bill in a 12-11 vote, according to Senator Chuck Grassley's office. The bill aims to provide certainty for the agricultural economy and boost America's long-term competitiveness.
The legislation builds on tax legislation Republicans passed last summer by strengthening the farm safety net and investing in rural communities. Sen. Grassley said this would give farmers more stability and support, as well as increase domestic corn demand.
One provision of the bill authorizes the permanent, year-round sale of E15 fuel, which Sen. Grassley believes will lower gas prices for consumers.
