Sensex Crashes to Six-Month Low Amid Oil Price Surge
Indian stock markets took a beating on Monday as the benchmark Sensex plummeted to a six-month low. The index lost 1,124 points, or 1.52 percent, to settle at 72,771.72.
The downturn was triggered by surging crude oil prices following the US-Iran stalemate over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Other factors contributing to investor sentiment included foreign fund outflows, a spike in US bond yields, and weak Asian markets.
Among the 30 Sensex firms, 29 ended lower. Larsen & Toubro fell by 2.81 percent, followed closely by Power Grid at 2.62 percent, Adani Ports at 2.38 percent, HDFC Bank at 2.3 per cent, Hindustan Unilever at 2.27 percent, and Reliance Industries at 2.24 percent.
