Sensex Plunges 388 Points Amid Rising Crude Oil Prices
Indian stock markets declined on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, due to rising crude oil prices. The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 388.19 points, or 0.49%, to settle at 78,154.25. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, jumped 2.18% to $89.63 per barrel.
The Sensex pack saw UltraTech Cement, Axis Bank, InterGlobe Aviation, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, and Power Grid as major laggards. However, Eternal, Infosys, Titan, HCL Tech, and Tata Consultancy Services were among the gainers.
Analysts cited renewed geopolitical concerns and rising crude oil prices as key factors behind the decline in investor sentiment. Ajit Mishra - SVP, research, Religare Broking Ltd, said, 'Markets traded under pressure on Tuesday, extending their cautious tone amid renewed geopolitical concerns and rising crude oil prices.'
Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Ltd, added that a sharp rebound in crude prices shifted market attention back to inflation risks, tempering investor enthusiasm despite a supportive earnings backdrop.
