The move aims to cover a reported shortage of around 1.69 million tons, with provincial estimates suggesting that Sindh will need 6.53 million tons of wheat in FY26 but only has 4.91 million tons available.

The province's wheat production increased sharply this year, with farmers cultivating the crop across 1.57 million hectares and producing around 4.91 million tons, exceeding their target by 688,194 tons.
