South Korea Pledges $200 Billion for US Energy Infrastructure
US President Donald Trump announced on September 28 that South Korea will invest approximately $200 billion in US energy infrastructure. This includes $54 billion for the Alaska LNG project, a long-planned development that would move North Slope gas through an 800-mile pipeline to a liquefaction and export facility.
The investments are part of a broader trade agreement reached last year, under which South Korea committed $350 billion for US projects. The deal includes $150 billion for shipbuilding and $200 billion in strategic investments, in exchange for a 15% tariff rate on South Korean goods.
Trump referred to the Alaska LNG project as 'one of the largest energy projects in American history'. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that the investment would help 'strengthen American energy dominance'.
