Soybean Growers Face Challenges in Harvest Season

Soybean harvest is in full swing in the South and southern parts of the Midwest. Steve Gauck, regional agronomy manager for Beck's, suggests that diligent scouting up until harvest will be key to achieving top yields. He notes that diseases are under control this year, but stinkbugs could still pose a problem.

With soybeans typically reaching 13% moisture before harvesting, growers may need to pause and switch to corn in between fields. This could result in higher yields, but also means more equipment cleaning.

Gauck advises checking cornfields for standability and ear rot concerns before deciding which crop to start with first. He also warns that soybean seed may still be too moist when stems are dry, potentially leading to shattering issues if harvest is delayed.
