Soybean Market Edges Lower Amid Modest Weakness
The soybean market experienced modest weakness on Friday, closing lower across the board. The November contract lost $0.40 for the week, while nearby cash prices fell by $0.06 to $12.23. Soymeal futures were down $2.40 to $7.40, led by the front months, with December suffering a loss of $23.50 for the week.
In contrast, soy oil futures were the bright spot in the complex, gaining 104 to 125 points higher due to strong demand. This upward trend continued throughout the week, with December contracts up 78 points.
The large managed money speculators in soybean futures and options held a net long position of 241,164 contracts as of Tuesday, down from 265,041 contracts the previous week. Harvest operations are expected to resume next week, with favorable weather conditions forecasted for the US growing region.
