Spain to Halt Russian LNG Imports from 2027 Amid EU Restrictions

Spain has announced plans to stop importing Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) from January 1, 2027, as per the European Union's restrictions on Russian LNG imports. Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated that Madrid intends to comply with these restrictions.

LNG supply contracts are long-term agreements, typically lasting many years or even decades, according to Albares.

Spain has significant LNG storage and regasification capacities in Europe, which could allow it to support other European states by securing gas supplies from alternative partners, such as the United States.
