Swiss Diesel Prices Hit Record High Amid Global Supply Chain Disruptions

Diesel prices in Switzerland have hit a record high, surpassing the previous peak set in 2022. According to the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS), a litre of diesel now costs an average of CHF 2.41 nationwide, a 35% increase from the beginning of the year when it was CHF 1.78.

The rise in prices is attributed to several factors, including disruptions to oil shipments in the Middle East and a sharp decline in Russian exports of diesel and petrol. Damage to oil infrastructure and refineries has also constrained supply.

Switzerland's own refinery at Cressier was shut for several days, while low water levels on the Rhine have hampered shipping for months, adding around 15 cents to the price of a litre of fuel.
