Syria Rebuilds Al-Thawra Oil Field Amid Global Energy Market Volatility
Syria is rebuilding its Al-Thawra oil field in Raqqa province as part of its reconstruction efforts after the civil war, which lasted from 2011 to 2024. The field's current output is about 2,500 barrels per day, down from about 25,000 barrels per day before the start of the war.
Authorities are repairing damaged wells and restoring oil transport systems, pumping stations, and storage tanks. Energy has become a pressing issue for the Syrian Arab Republic as the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran has disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global markets.
Syrian energy officials have sought help and advice from neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia, to address challenges in the rehabilitation process. These include a shortage of drilling equipment, pumps, electric motors, and spare parts.
