The latest developments in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US have taken a dramatic turn. On Wednesday, three tankers were reportedly hit in the Strait of Hormuz by unknown projectiles. This incident occurred shortly after Iran received the US's counterproposal on a ceasefire and framework for ending the war.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO) did not provide details on the nature of the attacks but confirmed that an oil tanker, an LNG tanker, and a third vessel were targeted.

Earlier in the day, Iranian authorities announced that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented a proposal for a seven-day ceasefire to President Masoud Pezeshkian at a cabinet meeting. However, efforts by Qatari mediators have not yielded significant progress as neither side is willing to make concessions.

US officials now believe it's increasingly likely that President Donald Trump will order a return to hostilities after the midterms, according to Axios.
