Tarique Seeks Malaysia's Help on Gas Supply Crisis

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reached out to his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim for assistance in addressing Bangladesh's gas supply crisis. The request was made during a telephone conversation between the two leaders on Tuesday, as revealed by Anwar Ibrahim's Facebook post.

The Prime Minister sought Malaysia's help in cooperating with PETRONAS, the state-owned energy company, to supply Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and meet Bangladesh's urgent needs. This comes as Bangladesh faces a challenge in gas supply, which has prompted Tarique Rahman to seek assistance from his Malaysian counterpart.

The conversation also covered economic cooperation between the two countries, including investments involving Axiata and potential strategic cooperation with MMC Port. Anwar Ibrahim emphasized Malaysia's commitment to strengthening its long-standing friendship with Bangladesh based on mutual respect, pragmatic cooperation, and a commitment to bring benefits to both nations.
