Tech Sector Leads as European Stock Markets Show Mixed Results
European stock markets are showing a mixed picture as trading begins, following a strong start to the week yesterday. The upward momentum is coming from the tech sector, with the Nasdaq having surpassed its July highs and renewed optimism regarding AI.
The tech sector's growth prospects have been reignited by the strong demand for Meta Platforms' AI assistant Muse, which has sparked enthusiasm for investment in this area and semiconductors. However, not all indices are performing well: the FTSE MIB in Milan and the DAX 30 in Frankfurt have seen sharp falls at the opening trade.
The Amsterdam stock exchange is bucking the trend, with oil prices remaining relatively stable due to hopes of easing tensions in Iran. President Trump has expressed a willingness to meet with Iranian officials travelling to New York for the UN General Assembly, which could lead to a reduction in tensions and stabilise oil prices.
