Texas Feds Greenlight Two Massive LNG Export Projects

Two major liquified natural gas (LNG) export projects in Texas have begun their review and permitting process. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved pre-filing review requests for the Port Arthur LNG North Project, which will add 27 million tons of annual capacity near Beaumont, and the Coastal Bend LNG Project, which will add 19.2 million tons per year at the Enbridge Ingleside Energy Center in San Patricio County.

The projects aim to increase Texas's LNG export capacity by a combined 46.2 million tons per year. In 2025, U.S. LNG exports reached a record 111 million tons, according to the Department of Energy. The developers of Coastal Bend LNG expect to complete their formal application by March 2027.

Sempra Infrastructure, the developer behind Port Arthur LNG North Project, believes that additional LNG supplies are necessary due to expected international shortages in the early 2030s. Coastal Bend LNG plans to use carbon capture and sequestration technology to lower emissions at the Enbridge Ingleside Energy Center.
