TotalEnergies and AMNI Unlock Nigeria's Ima Gas Field with $800m Investment
Nigeria has finally unlocked its long-abandoned Ima Gas Field after TotalEnergies and AMNI International signed an $800 million Final Investment Decision (FID), marking a major milestone in efforts to tap into the country's vast gas resources.
The project, located off Bonny Island in Rivers State, is expected to produce about 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, adding significantly to Nigeria's gas supply and creating new opportunities for investment, jobs, and exports.
President Bola Tinubu welcomed the FID as a major achievement, saying it demonstrates what can be achieved when investors are provided with a competitive, predictable, and enabling environment.
The Ima project is expected to generate between $2 billion and $4 billion in value over its lifetime, depending on international oil and gas prices. TotalEnergies' CEO Mathieu Bouyer stated that the company targets first gas by the end of 2028, with Nigerian content remaining central to the execution of the project.
The development marks another major commitment by international and indigenous energy companies to Nigeria's upstream sector, following regulatory and fiscal reforms introduced by the federal government in recent years.
