TotalEnergies' Mozambique LNG Project Reaches 45% Completion, On Track for 2029 Production

TotalEnergies reports that its Mozambique LNG project has reached 45% completion and remains on track to start production in 2029. The megaproject, which is one of the largest private investments in Africa, employs nearly 8,000 workers at the Afungi site in Cabo Delgado province.

TotalEnergies' Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanné acknowledged that the conflict in the Middle East created logistical challenges for the project. However, he stated that those problems have now been resolved and that the company is on track to meet its production targets.

The Mozambique LNG project will produce up to 13 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually from 2029. The project's completion has been delayed due to various factors, including the conflict in the Middle East, but TotalEnergies remains confident that it will meet its production targets.

Pouyanné also mentioned that Mozambique is one of the group's strategic growth markets, alongside Suriname, Namibia, and Malaysia. The company is building a position in Mozambique, which is expected to transform the country into one of the world's leading exporters of LNG.
