Trump Announces $54B South Korean Investment in Alaska LNG Project
US President Donald Trump is set to announce a major investment initiative from South Korea, worth $200 billion, which will be anchored by a $54 billion commitment to the long-stalled Alaska LNG project. This marks the initial deployment of capital under a bilateral trade pact established last year, which committed Seoul to investing $350 billion in total in the US.
The Alaska LNG project aims to transport natural gas across an 800-mile pipeline from Alaska's North Slope to the state's southern coast for export to Asian markets. The influx of capital addresses severe structural cost barriers that have delayed the massive infrastructure venture for decades.
South Korea's participation comes amid widespread global gas market realignments triggered by Middle East conflicts, which have constrained supplies from major exporters like Qatar and the UAE, leaving Asian importers increasingly reliant on volatile spot markets.
