Trump Considers Strikes on Iran's Energy Infrastructure Amid Tensions
US President Donald Trump is considering authorizing joint US-Israeli military strikes against Iran's critical energy infrastructure, according to recent media reports. The proposed targets include petroleum refineries, which would cripple Iran's domestic fuel supply and oil revenues, as well as electrical power plants, intended to disable the national grid and impair governance capability.
Trump declared during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David that the US will bomb an Iranian power plant or bridge for every device fired at commercial vessels in the critical Strait of Hormuz. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that 'Iran will continue to pay until they come to the table' in a meaningful way.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned via the Tasnim News Agency that any attack on their 'energy sovereignty' will be met with immediate, symmetric strikes on Western-aligned infrastructure across the Persian Gulf. Tehran's retaliation plans explicitly target US energy installations, Israeli IT and desalination infrastructure, and electrical plants across the Middle East.
The potential strike plans have caused a surge in West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices, which rose above $86 a barrel in post-settlement trading following the disclosure of the potential strike plans. Military planners and White House aides are closely coordinating the timing of the potential strikes to limit panic selling and mitigate immediate global oil market shocks.
