Trump Defends Higher Oil Prices as Price of Preventing Iranian Nuclear Capability
US President Donald Trump has justified the recent surge in oil prices as a necessary sacrifice to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Speaking at the White House, he claimed that most people would vote for higher gas prices if it meant preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear capability.
'I think most people, if they had a vote on lower gas prices or letting Iran have a nuclear weapon, I'd be willing to vote that it'd be a massive landslide, people don't want Iran to have a nuclear weapon,' Trump said. 'And you know what, they won't.'
Trump's comments came as the US is engaged in a war with Iran. He claimed that the US is winning the conflict 'very handily' and predicted that petrol prices would drop once it ends.
