US President Donald Trump has denied 'jumping the gun' on announcing a South Korean investment in Alaska's liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. The $54 billion pipeline is part of a broader $200 billion strategic investment package made by South Korea as part of a trade agreement with Washington last year.

Trump unveiled plans for the investment during his meeting with the South Korean president, which included $8.4 billion for a project to push out crude from an aging oilfield in Texas. However, Seoul quickly clarified that one key element - the Alaska LNG project - was not yet set in stone.

The White House stated that Trump did not 'jump the gun' and claimed that South Korea's representatives were present during the announcement. If they choose not to invest, Trump said he will simply charge them more.
