The US has deployed additional Patriot missile batteries to protect key oil and gas facilities in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, amid concerns of potential Iranian retaliation. According to Axios, one battery was sent to Saudi Arabia to defend an oil facility, while another was deployed to Qatar to safeguard a natural gas installation.

The move follows reported appeals by the Saudi and Qatari leadership to US President Donald Trump against a proposed major attack on Iran that could have included strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure. The two countries feared that such action could prompt attacks on their own oil and gas facilities.

As part of the deployment, additional warships, aircraft, and troops have been sent to the region, including the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group carrying thousands of US Marines. This comes amid pressure on US stocks of missile-defence interceptors following extensive use during the conflict with Iran.
