US President Donald Trump posted an image on his Truth Social platform of the Strait of Hormuz labeled 'Trump Strait' after Iran proposed a deal to open the waterway within a week if certain conditions are met.
The White House said US officials were having positive and constructive conversations with mediators on the Iran war, but did not provide further details.
Iran's top diplomat described Tehran's new proposal to the US in a private gathering on Thursday, which largely echoes the ones agreed to in the June deal that fell apart.
The proposal would see the Strait of Hormuz reopened and talks resumed on Iran's nuclear program within seven days if the US lifts its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waives sanctions on oil sales, and observes a ceasefire.
