Trump Rejects Iran Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a week, citing that Tehran wants to make a deal because it is 'losing so badly.'

The proposal, made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, called for the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waive sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and observe a ceasefire in Lebanon in exchange for Iran reopening the strait and resuming talks on its nuclear program.

Iran effectively closed the strait after the US and Israel attacked the country in late February, resulting in a significant drop in the number of ships passing through due to Iranian threats and attacks on vessels.
