Trump Rejects Iran Proposal for Strait Reopening and Nuclear Talks
US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks on its nuclear program within seven days. The proposal, made by Iranian officials this week, included lifting the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, waiving sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and observing a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Trump stated that Iran wanted to make a deal because it was 'losing so badly' in the conflict. He added that he would like to make a deal as well, but one that would not be acceptable to the US.
The Strait of Hormuz has been closed by Iranian forces since the US and Israel attacked the Islamic Republic in late February. As a result, the number of ships passing through the strait has significantly decreased due to Iranian threats and attacks on vessels.
