Trump Rejects Iranian Plan to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has reportedly rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end fighting in the Middle East. The plan, which was transmitted via Qatari mediators, aimed to restart oil shipping through the strategic waterway within seven days.

The US has imposed economic sanctions on Iran to pressure it into lifting its blockade of the strait, which has drastically reduced shipping through the region. Trump stated that he believes the US is winning in the conflict and that Iran is losing badly.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Al Jazeera that Yemen's Houthis and Saudi Arabia must resolve their differences through dialogue, and that Iran can help resolve the dispute. He emphasized that Iran will not be warmongers and that a brother should not fight a brother.
