Trump Rejects Iran's Proposal for Strait of Hormuz Reopening

U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days in exchange for lifting sanctions and a ceasefire. The Iranian government offered to resume talks on its nuclear program if the U.S. meets certain conditions, including lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports and waiving sanctions on Iranian oil sales.

Iran effectively closed the strait after a U.S.-Israeli attack in late February, resulting in a significant drop in ships passing through due to Iranian threats and attacks on vessels in the waterway.

Trump's rejection of the proposal comes as Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has left New York for Tehran after the annual U.N. gathering of world leaders. In his speech, Pezeshkian pushed back against Trump's threat to 'annihilate' the Islamic Republic but remained open to diplomacy.
