Trump Repeats Claim on Strait of Hormuz as 'New US Territory'
US President Donald Trump has once again shared a map of the Strait of Hormuz on his Truth Social platform, labeling it 'new US territory'. This is not the first time Trump has made this claim; he had previously posted the same image on August 18 and pitched declaring the strait part of US territory on August 15.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil and natural gas supplies, with around one fifth of the world's exports passing through it. Iran has asserted control over the strait since February 28, when a war broke out, making it mandatory for vessels to obtain permission and pay transit fees before using the waterway.
Trump claims that the US 'has total control' over the strait, contradicting Iran's assertion of control. The dispute has significant implications for global trade and energy supplies.
