Trump Sees End in Sight for Iran Conflict Amid Ongoing Talks
US President Donald Trump said that the conflict with Iran could end soon as indirect negotiations continue over Tehran's nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz, while Saudi diplomacy intensifies in Washington.
According to Trump, the United States is making progress on both military and economic fronts, with Iran's nuclear capabilities destroyed and its economy and military severely weakened. He also stated that oil prices would return to pre-war levels once the conflict ends and reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains a central US objective.
Despite his increasingly confident assessment of the military campaign, Trump has left the door open to diplomacy. The US-Iran talks remain on track, with regional mediators working to narrow differences between the two sides. Another round of indirect talks could take place as early as Monday, according to two regional sources cited by Axios.
The negotiations are focused on several contentious issues, including Iran's nuclear program, the terms for ending the fighting, and arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has sought to link reopening the strait and renewed nuclear negotiations to wider US concessions, which Trump rejected but said negotiations could continue.
