Trump Signs Russia-Iran Sanctions Law, Raising Trade Risk for Indian Equities
Indian equities will likely track crude oil prices, US Treasury yields, and geopolitical developments this week, with President Donald Trump's signing of the Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act adding a fresh trade risk for markets.
The law gives Trump's administration expanded powers to impose tariffs of up to 100 per cent on imports from major buyers of Russian oil and gas, including India. The impact on Indian equities is uncertain, but analysts note that crude oil prices and geopolitical developments remain key driving trends.
Ajit Mishra, SVP at Religare Broking, said globally, updates on US-Iran tensions, movement in crude oil prices, and Treasury yields will remain market drivers. He also noted that Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have pulled out Rs 20,974 crore from Indian equities so far this month amid elevated crude oil prices.
