Trump Unveils $54 Billion South Korea Investment in Alaska LNG Project
President Donald Trump announced a major investment deal with South Korea on September 30, which includes a $54 billion commitment to Alaska's liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. This is part of a larger $350 billion package that also involves investments in U.S. energy and shipbuilding infrastructure.
The deal, which Trump hailed as 'historic', will see tariffs on South Korean automobiles, timber, lumber, and aircraft products reduced to 15% in exchange for the investment. According to Trump, part of the money paid by South Korea is going into the Alaska LNG project.
U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan commended the deal, stating that it 'represents the most consequential step yet toward making the Alaska LNG dream a reality.' Sullivan noted that the project will strengthen America's energy security and provide reliable American energy to allies from one of the world's great energy superpowers - Alaska.
