President Donald Trump's promise of cheaper gasoline is being put to the test as oil prices continue to rise. Brent crude futures traded at $105.40 a barrel on September 24, up 2.25%, amidst US-Iran talks that showed little progress.

The national average price for gasoline in the US reached $4.48 a gallon, compared to $4.10 a month earlier, according to AAA. For drivers, this translates to an additional 38 cents per gallon.

Trump tied lower fuel prices to an end to the Iran war, suggesting that Americans may have to wait until after November's midterm elections for relief. However, he did not announce a fixed timetable or price reduction.
