Oil prices plummeted over 5% to around $83 a barrel after US President Donald Trump announced that Washington would hold talks with Iran on Monday.

The immediate concerns about supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz were alleviated, leading to an improvement in market sentiment. European stocks opened strong, with Germany's DAX hitting an intraday record.

US stock futures also rose as a large share of S&P 500 companies reporting so far have beaten expectations, according to Lombard Odier Investment Managers.
