Turkey and UN Seek Renewed Black Sea Ceasefire Talks with Ukraine and Russia
The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia may see renewed talks on a ceasefire in the Black Sea. According to Bloomberg, Turkey and the UN are working together to facilitate negotiations.
The agreement aims to protect grain ships, ports, and energy facilities from attack. Representatives of the Swiss 'Center for Humanitarian Dialogue' will assist in the negotiations.
The talks may take place as early as October, with a focus on ensuring safe passage for merchant ships through the Black Sea. The parties are also discussing protection for ports and energy infrastructure.
The motivation behind these new attempts at an agreement is largely driven by concerns over grain exports. Ukraine and Russia account for over 25% of global wheat exports, and attacks on port infrastructure have already impacted world prices.
