Türkiye Seeks Support for Qatar-Europe Gas Pipeline Amid Hormuz Disruptions
Türkiye's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar is calling for backing to advance a long-proposed pipeline that would carry Qatari natural gas through Türkiye to Europe, creating an alternative supply route amid disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The proposed pipeline would stretch about 2,000-2,200 kilometers and require financing, technical planning, and construction. Bayraktar emphasized the need for political will from Qatar and European countries to make this project a reality.
Bayraktar noted that everyone is looking for an alternative energy supply route due to the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, which normally handles about a fifth of the world's oil flows. He sees this period as an opportunity for new projects to be brought to life.
