UAE Considers Bypassing Strait of Hormuz with New LNG Facility
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is considering building a new liquefied natural gas export facility on the UAE's east coast, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. The proposed project aims to reduce ADNOC's reliance on the waterway, which has been disrupted by conflict in Iran.
The move comes as neighboring countries seek alternative infrastructure routes to minimize risks and ensure energy exports flow smoothly. Saudi Arabia is exploring expanding its East-West pipeline to Red Sea ports, while Iraq plans to restore legacy pipelines and construct new routes through Syria and Turkey.
ADNOC's Chief Financial Officer Peter van Driel revealed the company's preliminary evaluation of the east coast project in a Bloomberg Television interview. The proposed facility would require a multi-billion dollar investment and involve constructing a cross-country pipeline network connecting western gas fields to the eastern coast.
