UK Diesel Prices Soar to Record High Amid Global Supply Disruptions
The price of diesel in the UK has reached an all-time high, surpassing its previous record set in June 2022. According to figures from the RAC, a litre of diesel now costs on average 199.18p, up by 56.8p since the start of the US-Iran conflict on February 28.
The rise in diesel prices is due to global supply disruptions caused by ongoing conflicts in Russia and Ukraine, as well as renewed hostilities in the Middle East. Russian exports of diesel have dropped sharply following attacks on key oil refineries, leading to increased demand for fuel from other countries and higher wholesale prices.
RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: 'The average price of a litre of diesel has now reached the highest level in UK history... This spells pain not only at the pumps for drivers but for everyone who buys goods or services that rely on diesel lorries and vans.'
