The UK's foodservice inflation rate slowed down to 0.2% in July, a decrease from June's 1.8%. Despite this marginal increase, industry experts warn that operators cannot afford to be complacent due to potential future impacts of the ongoing heatwaves and drought conditions.

According to the Foodservice Price Index from NIQ and Prestige Purchasing, prolonged hot and dry weather has affected UK crops, including vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflowers, potatoes, onions, carrots, and parsnips. This may lead to uncertainty around future yields and availability.

On the other hand, strong availability of British strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, plums, and early season apples resulted in lower fruit prices month-on-month.

The report also noted that international grain markets strengthened in July, with wheat prices increasing. In contrast, international meat markets weakened for the first time this year, with softer poultry, pork, and beef prices. However, lamb prices reached record levels due to strong global demand and limited supplies.
