UK Foodservice Inflation Slows Amid Drought Concerns
Foodservice inflation in the UK has continued into July, with prices rising by 0.2% month-on-month, according to the latest Foodservice Price Index from NIQ and Prestige Purchasing.
This represents a slowdown from June's 1.8% increase, but inflationary pressures remain firmly embedded in foodservice supply chains.
The industry is closely monitoring key categories, including vegetables, where prolonged heatwaves have impacted UK crops, particularly broccoli, cauliflowers, potatoes, onions, carrots, and parsnips.
Favourable growing conditions have supported strong availability of British fruit, leading to lower prices month-on-month. However, international grain markets strengthened in July, with wheat prices rising sharply due to concerns over disruption to Black Sea exports and weather-related challenges in major growing regions.
