UK Natural Gas Prices Climb Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
UK natural gas prices continued their upward trend on Tuesday, reaching towards 154 pence per therm. This increase in price is largely due to the ongoing maritime blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has delayed LNG shipments from Qatar and limited supplies available to Europe.
The blockade, a result of tensions between the US and Iran, has been further complicated by President Trump's statement that he was 'in no rush' to resolve the conflict. This has led to uncertainty over when or if the Strait will reopen, exacerbating the supply shortage.
In addition to the effects of the blockade, intense heatwaves across parts of Europe have boosted gas-fired power demand for air conditioning. As a result, European storage levels are under greater pressure ahead of the winter heating season.
