Ukraine Seeks Truce with Russia Over Black Sea Attacks Amid Food Supply Fears
Ukraine has proposed a truce to Russia on attacks in the Black Sea as both countries face mounting fears of global food supply disruptions. The offer, sent via a third party, involves halting strikes on civilian targets and was still awaiting a response from Moscow.
The proposal comes as Ukraine's agricultural sector warns that Russia's blockade of its Black Sea ports has led to a 76% year-on-year decline in grain exports so far in August. This has sparked concerns about the potential economic consequences for Ukraine should the blockade persist.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had previously proposed a moratorium on attacks in the Black Sea, but it's unclear if Russia will accept Ukraine's offer or consider other proposals.
