Ukraine's Buckwheat Prices Soar Amid Public Hype and Supply Woes
Buckwheat prices have skyrocketed in Ukraine over the past year, more than doubling from last year's level. In September alone, prices per kilogram rose by 10-23 hryvnias in some stores.
The increase is attributed to factors such as public hype, concerns about future food stocks, and logistical difficulties caused by damage to warehouses and supply disruptions. Last year's harvest was the smallest since Ukraine's independence, leading to reduced market supply and contributing to the price surge.
Although the new harvest has begun arriving in Ukraine, a significant increase in production volumes is not expected due to unchanged sowing areas. This means that buckwheat prices may not drop soon despite the appearance of the new crop.
