UN Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia Amid Escalating Regional Tensions
A recent escalation in attacks by Yemen's Houthi group has caught international attention, particularly after the UN Security Council condemned their strikes on Saudi Arabia. The Houthis have been launching attacks towards Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July, targeting Saudi vessels in the Red Sea and putting global oil supplies at risk.
The UN Security Council condemned the Houthi attacks, including strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure that injured civilians, among them women and children. The council members noted their August 7 statement condemning Houthi missile attacks on the kingdom and assaults on commercial vessels.
They reiterated their condemnation of attacks and threats against shipping in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, stressing the importance of safeguarding vessels and their crews. The council demanded that the Houthis 'immediately cease their military escalation' and attacks affecting civilians and civilian objects.
