UNSMIL Slams Disruption of Sharara-Zawia Oil Pipeline Over Revenue Concerns

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has expressed concern over the ongoing disruption of the Sharara-Zawia oil pipeline, which is affecting Libya's primary source of national income. The pipeline's disruption has resulted in significant losses in oil production and public revenues, putting fuel supplies, electricity generation, and other essential services at risk.

UNSMIL acknowledges that workers have a right to raise legitimate socio-economic demands peacefully, but calls on all actors to protect the integrity of oil and energy facilities. The mission also warns that attacks against or actions undermining Libya's oil infrastructure may lead to measures under relevant Security Council resolutions.

The UNSMIL urges authorities and security actors to engage urgently and resolve any associated disputes peacefully to restore crude oil flow and safeguard operations at the Zawiya Refinery and related facilities.
