The escalating tensions in Gulf waters have taken another turn for the worse as the US and Iran trade strikes on oil tankers and military bases. The crisis began when a US Navy warship was targeted by Iranian ballistic missiles twice over two days, prompting the US Central Command (CENTCOM) to destroy five Iranian crude oil carriers.

The CENTCOM statement confirmed that the M/T Riesco sank in the Gulf of Oman after being destroyed by their forces. The vessel had been targeted as part of the ongoing attacks on American naval ships.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Washington will continue targeting Iranian oil tankers in response to these attacks, stating that 'for every time they do that or try to do that, they're going to lose tankers'.
