US Blockade Cuts Iran Oil Exports to Zero for First Time
The United States naval blockade has been successful in reducing Iran's oil exports to zero for the first time on record. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane through which much of the world's oil is transported, has seen no meaningful crude exports from Iran in over seven weeks.
This marks a significant achievement for the US, as previous sanctions imposed on Iran had failed to have a substantial impact on its oil exports.
Ahmad Ghaddar, Enes Tunagur, and Robert Harvey reported for Reuters that the blockade has been effective in cutting off one of Tehran's main sources of foreign-currency earnings.
