US Cracks Down on India-Based Firms for Facilitating Iran Oil Trade
The US has launched an operation called 'Operation Economic Outcast' to impose new sanctions on companies involved in importing Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products. The US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced this operation on Monday, August 26, aiming to block all potential sources of revenue for Iran.
The four Indian-based companies sanctioned are Portease Partners LLP and its partners Indrismiya Asharafsmiya Shekh and Harish Ramchandra Rangi. They allegedly facilitated the import of multiple shipments of Iranian petrochemical products to India, according to a press release by the US State Department.
The operation targets companies that have been involved in Iran's oil trade, which has been a point of contention between the US and Iran for years. The sanctions are intended to restrict Iran's access to international markets and revenue streams.
