US Destroys Five Iranian Oil Tankers as Iran Fires Back with Missiles
The escalating conflict between Iran and the US has taken another turn as Tehran launches missiles at American targets in Jordan, following the destruction of five Iranian oil tankers by US forces. The attacks on the tankers, which were anchored in the Gulf of Oman, were in response to two missile attacks on a US warship over the past two days.
The crews of the Iranian vessels were instructed to abandon ship before they were struck and rendered inoperable, according to a statement from the US Central Command. The destroyed tankers included the Kivik, Charminar, Horizon 1, Riesco, and Derya.
Meanwhile, Jordan's air-defence systems have successfully intercepted and destroyed 18 out of 20 ballistic missiles fired by Iran towards the country. Two missiles fell in unpopulated areas, causing no casualties. The assessments are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage.
